My family and I went to the county fair. We ran into a friend of mine and her family. Our families began walking around the fairgrounds together and stopping to see the main points of interest. The kids wanted to see the animals, so we walked through the barns that contained horses, cows, and pigs. When we came to the sheep, my friend said that she would have to skip this one because she is allergic to wool. After we viewed the sheep and met up with her once again, we went into the barn where the goats were housed. My friend began to sniffle and sneeze. Her eyes were watering too. I asked her if she was allergic to goats as well as sheep. She started telling me a story about a sweater that her aunt had made for her many years ago. She said it was a very beautiful sweater, but she could not wear it because she was allergic to the yarn that it was made with. When she told me it was made of csshmere, I asked two questions… why she thought she was allergic to sheep and why she went into the goat barn. Cashmere knitting yarn is not made of lamb’s wool. This is a popular misconception that many people believe. Cashmere is actually made from goat’s fur.
